GUN BATTLE IN U.S.A.
ARMY DESERTERS AND PURSUING G-MEN Abingdo: (Virginia), March 13. Two army deserters who shot and killed one agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and seriously wounded another to-day were captured in an abandoned house here. More than 100 Federal, State and local officers surrounded the house. A numbP" of shots were exchanged before tear-gas forced the soldiers out. The Federal Bureau of Investigation alleges that the soldiers stole a supply of pistols and ammunition from Port Ogelthorpe before escaping. They later kidnapped a taxidriver and escaped to Tennessee. Agents of the F. 8.1. traced them to a cafe, but the soldiers, still in uniform, blazed away at them as soon as the agents identified themselves. One agent was killed instantly and the other seriously wounded. In the resulting confusion the soldiers temporarily escaped, but later were captured. ______
