REPORT ON FLOOD DAMAGE

WANGANIT COUNTY ROADS The Matahiwi Road, damaged by floods last January, was still blocked for vehicular traffic, reported the engineer, Mr. R. R. Dawson, at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui bounty Council on Friday. He added that difficulty had been experienced in obtaining the use of a bulldozer for clearing the road, but it was expected that Ihe necessary equipment would h'> made available by the Public Works Department this week. Mr. Dawson added that the contract, for lhe formation and sealing of the No. 50 Highway from Matarawa to Deniair had been completed. Sealing of the road surface through the Forde! 1 township would be begun at an earlv date. On the Mangawhero Road an old bridge would be replaced with a culvert and filling. Tho full length of the Crook Road had been cleared of slips, and a' the first opportunity a grader would bo employed for reforming work. Metal repairs had been carried out at tho lower end. and further repairs would he made at a later dale. “Comprehensive metal repairs have been made on the Wangaohu Valiev Road, from Mangamahu to Aranui, and tho balance of tho road to Mount View is now being metalled” tho engineer stated. “Tho water tunnel hetween Ngamatea and Mount View has been completed, and it is proposed to commence the construction of Ihe road filling within the next few week.'-:. Tho contractor is making good progress with tho formation of tlm Mount [View-Pungataua deviation, and the formation nart of tho contract should bo completed next month. Metalling has boon commenced on Field’s Track and Unner Waimaehu Valiev roads, and should be completed eardy next month.”
