A shop day, held in the Avenue yesterday and organised by the Voluntary Aid Works’ Committee to raise funds for equipment for emergency first aid stations, proved a great success. McDougal was convener and Mrs. K. Gould supervisor. Golden Wedding. Mr. and Mrs. G. Coxon. Hakeke Street, Wanganui East, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this week, and to mark the occasion a card afternoon was given them by women of the Wanganui East branch of the Now Zealand Labour Partv. Some 30 members and friends gathered at the branch’s rooms. Afternoon tea was served, after which Mrs. E. Tate, chairman of the women’s committee, presented Mrs. Coxon with a box of flowers and bouquet of golden pompom dahlias, and. on behalf of the assembly, a reading-lamp, and a pipe for Mr. Coxon. The gifts were accompanied with a suitably inscribed card containing a list of the subscribers. Mr. and Mrs Coxon thanked the gathering and were given musical honours. Mothers!
