These investments, which bear interest at 3 pei cent., juovide a means ol assisting the Dominions war eliorl by Dusiness firms, clubs and institutions wno today hold surplus funds possibly not required for the duration of the war. The recent appeal to institutions, sports bodies and others who haw accumulated funds lor building ana other purposes alter the war, is meeting with a good response. During the I past ‘l ew w eeks local investments o< this nature have come irom the Aramoho Boating Club (£25iJ), Wanganui Municipal General Labourers' industrial Union of Workers (£5O), and the Wanganui Road Transport Industrial Union (£150). Both these latter organisations have contributed almost the total amount of their available funds. It is hoped that other similar organisations, having accumulated funds, will follow the example ol these bodies in assisting the National war effort. Flag Flies at Marton. For the 21st. week in succession the “Victory" Hag was flying at the masthead on the Marton Post OJlice at 2 p.m. yesterday. On Thursday Marton was £ll6 short of its quota but as a result of an appeal in the “Chronicle” by the postmaster, the amount required was attained. Ararnoho reached its quota for the 21st. week in succession late yesterday afternoon.
