BRITISH HOME GUARD

COMPULSION IN SOME AREAS. Rugby, March 11. Compulsory enrolment in the Home Guard is to be introduc ed in certain civil defence regions. Mr. Duncan Sandys, in making thif announcement in the House of Commons, said that in certain parts of the country where voluntary recruiting was insufficient it had become urgently necessary to bring the Home Guard up to strength. Compulsory enrolment would therefore be introduced in civil defence regions corresponding approximately to the areas embraced by the east, south-east, anc. southern military commands. Compulsory enrolment would be introduced in further areas as and when it became necessary.—B.O.W.
