MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL OBJEC TION in COUNCILLOR • O.C.> Marton, Mart’ll 12. When the question oi appointing •ounsel to represent the Marlon Bornigh Council in "their appeals to the Manpower Committee lor a borough 'mployee and a member of the Marion Fire Brigade came before the Borough Council on Wednesday night, 1 \v;i.- suggested that Cr. K. A. A. Williams should anpear on behalf of he council for the member of the Marton Fire Brigade and Mr. Holden :nr the borough employee. Mr. T. E. Barton strongly objected o the council entering appeals, as he ponsidered that the superintendent of the brigade, who resided at the station. could attend to any night alarms. The member who is to be appealed for >, under 20 years of age and has been passed as medically fit. Regarding the borough employee he was not in favour of the council appealing for his exemption. Cr. Barton slated that he had six of his employees called un and they were going to camp. This would uau.-o him a great deal of inconvenien<e. hut hr hoped to fill their places with girl assistants. “Unfortunately.” -’a’rd Cr. Barton. "I was not present at the meeting of the council when the decision was arrived at to enter an appeal, otherwise I would have, objected." With the consent of the Mayor Cr. Barton moved that the appeals be withdrawn. This was defeated on the voices and the appeals will be heard at the meeting of the Manpower Committee ai Marton on Friday. March 20. Mr. Barton has three sons and a daughter on ac:ive service, and his youngest son at home is under military age.
