SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. D. C. Collins, Featherston, was a recent visitor to Wanganui. Mrs. W. Simson, Waver ley, has been staying in Wanganui for a lew days. Mrs. Z. Lawrie, of Gisbrone, who has been spending a holiday in Wanganui as tne guest of Mrs. J. McDougal, St. Jonn’s Hill, returns home to-day.

HITHER AND THITHER. Plunket Aids. *“ A second course of Plunket Ait lectures will begin on Tuesday, March 24 at 7.45 p.m. at the Plunket Rooms. 4 Campbell Street. Those people willing to do Plunket Aid work arc urgently asked to take the lectures. The present Plunket Aids may take the course again as a refresher if they wish. Garden Party. Many attractions, including a baby show, nave been arranged for the garden party to be held by the Gonville Red Cross Sub-Centre at Mrs. Barkman’s, 43 King’s Avenue. Gonville, to-morrow, March 14. Johnston hostessed a deligntlui afternoon party at her home in cumbrae Place on Tuesday. Memoers of the out-going committee ol the Aramoho Women's institute spent tne afternoon in Virginia Lake Reserve on Wednesday, and had tea in the kiosk. Mrs. K. Wells, president, lor the committee, presented Mis. Noble with a gilt, at the same time thanking her lor ner services during the past year. Sprays of flowers were presented to Mis. Mitchell, secretary; Mrs. Armstrong, recording secretary; Mrs. Clementson, treasurer; and to Mesdames Bergen und i ye. tea conveners. Proirua Hospital Christmas Cheei Fund. In a letter acknowledging the receipt of gilt parcels and monetary contributions with which the wellare branch of the Women's National Reserve endeavoured to brighten the lives of the women and children, parents of the Rorirua Hospital, Dr. Hart, the medical superintendent, cinveyed his grateful thanks to members for the great help given his patients during 1941’. An excellent pragramm-?, wnich gave much pleasure to the audience, included songs delightfully sung by Miss Julie Worry, pianoforte elections by Miss Thea Collier ana Miss Reggj Scott, and elocutionary items by Mrs. T. L. Sperring, all oi which were received with enethusiaslic applause. Miss N. Gamman accompanied the singers and Mrs. R. N. Wilson played an accompaniment oi her own composing to the monologue “London Biiuge is Falling Down, given by Mrs. Sperring. Mrs. Bain thanked the artists wno had coniributed to !he enjoyable programme and those who hau attended. Everyone brought contributions for soldiers’ parcels and these made a good display on a table. The Victoria League gave 110 parcels for the December quota and expect to equal or even exceed Lins number for tne next quota. UTIKU BRANCH VV D.F.U. SUCCESSFUL PADDY’S MARKED. A very successful Paddy’s Mark'd and Hag 500 was held at Utiku by the local branch of the D.D.F.U, on March o.
