REPORTED ATTACK ON AUSTRALIA
NO CONFIRMATION OF BERLIN REPORT (Recd. 12.4 a.m.) Sydney, Dec. 17. There h no confirmation of a New' York message quoting a Berlin broadcast saying that Port Albert, south-eastern Australia, had been attacked by the Japanese .Air Force. Port Albert is situated at the southern extremity of South Gippsland in the vicinity of Wilson’s Promontory, Victoria. (Recd. 12.40 a m.) New York, Dec. 17. A Berlin broadcast heard in Nev. York said the Australian Government had ordered the evacuation of women and children from Port Albert, southeastern Australia, “which was attad:ed by the Japanese air force ’’ Tn»* broadcast did not give further details.
