TRAINING FOR THE HOME GUARD
CONTINUATION DURING THE HOLIDAYS BATTALION SC HEME FOR SUNDAY. At their own request officers anti other ranks of the Wanganui Home Guard Battalion, commanded by Lieut.-Colonel \V. S. McGrorie. E.D.. will continue training over the holidays. This means that the effective strength of the Home Guard will not disperse for Christmas and New Year, as was originally intended. Parades next week have been arranged so that all will have Christmas Eve off. Units have instructions and training programmes covering the holiday period. A battalion tactical scheme round coastal positions Is being arranged for next Sunday. Three companies, A (Mr. W. H. Cannan). C (Mr. T. N. Hay-Campbell I. and D (Mr. W. Cleland’ are to march from their assembly areas, but B Company (Mr. F. C. Jannings) will be transported part of the distance. The scheme is to incorporate the lessons of the exercises in October, the object being to further develop appreciation by officers and men of district requirements in an emergency. Instructions to Home Guardsmen for calling-up in an emergency are b.eing drawn up by Lieut.-Colonel McCrorie and the information will be passed on to units next week. It was stated yesterday that any call-up of the Home Guard would differ from a call-up of Territorials in that it would he based on the guardsmans home and the fact that the Home Guard would he enovzed in static war.
