MARTON II NCTION PATRIOTIC WORK More than 1400 articles. for patriotic purposes, most made by members, have been sent away this year by the Marton Junction Women’s Institute. The articles sent include 365 hussifs 45 feeders. 124 balaclavas. 188 pairs of mittens. 90 scarves, three polo neck jumpers, and 71 soldiers’ pi reels. WELD’S Bls SEKVKE On account ot petrol restrictions Weld’s motor-bus service between Marton and Palmerston North on Tuesdays and Saturdays has been cancelled until further notice. Cl BPACK PARADE The last parade for lhe year of the Marlon Cub Pack was held on Moni cay evening, and Miss G. Nielson, w ho 'had helped the Cubs with singing during the year, was made a presentation. The Cubs gave their “grand howl” and then enjoyed games and competitions. Investiture and the awarding of badges were followed by supper, which was provided by Mrs. L. Humphrey. PRESENTATION TO SOLDIERS On Sunday night, friends of Privates Jack Duncan and J. Bishop enilertained th°m m St. Andrew’s Hall, i Marton. The Rev. J. D. Paterson I spoke of the qualities of both men. who are members of the New Zealand Medical Corps. Mr. F. Nicol and Mr. G. B. Gregory spoke for the Bible class and church members. Presentations of a Testament and diary were made, and a delightful supper was served, which concluded a pleasant evening.
