WANGANUI PLUNKET SOCIETY

THE MONTHLY MEETING A well-attended meeting of the Wanganui branch of the Plunket Society was held on Tuesday last, the president. Mrs. T. Hine, presiding over an attendance of 20 members. Mrs. Hine referred to the passing of the late Mrs. Hales, who for many years was a very keen worker for the society. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs. S. Robinson, another interested worker of the society, in the passing of her husband. In their report for November the Plunket nurses stated that there were 1010 old and 104 new cases on the books. Visitors to the office totalled 1547. comprising 777 adults. 658 babies. 105 children and 7 others. Visits paid to homes numbered 299. In the pre-natal section there were four new cases and 45 return visits. The report also thanked Mr. Doyle for his attention to the garden and lawn outside the Wanganui East Piunket rooms. Mr. Arnold was also thanked for donating a wooden screen to the rooms. The matron of Stewart Karitane Hospital reported that during November 18 babies and six mothers had been admitted, and 15 babies and five mothers discharged. Cases were received from Wanganui. Shannon, Kakatahi. New Plymouth. Hawera. Mangamahu. Fordell. Parikino, Opunake. Talhape. Raetihi and Felldlng. A donation of £5 was received from Patea Plunket Society for the funds of Stewart Karitane Hospital and £5 from the Wanganui Repertory Society for Plunket funds. Both donations were acknowledged with thanks. Advice was received from Miss Baker, principal of the Girls’ College, that the Board of Governors had sanctioned the use of the college grounds for a garden party in aid of Plunket funds, to be held on Saturday. March 7. Arrangements were made to furnish the following stalls: Babies’ and toddlers' clothes, produce, sweets, ice cream and soft drinks, and flowers. It was also decided to have a bran tub and mystery parcels and to arrange for afternoon tea and entertainment.
