MAYOR OF MARTON
MR. F. PURNELL’S LONG TERM OF OFFICE COt NTIL'S APPRECIATION' A resolution placing on record the council’s appreciation of the services of Mr. F. Purnell, as Mayor of Marton over a period of 20 years, was carried at last night’s meeting of the Marton Borough Council. Mr. Purnell has completed 20 years’ continuous service as Mayor of the borough, which is a third of its history. He has been returned unopposed each time. The resolution was moved by Cr G. B Gregory and seconded by Cr. T E. Barton. A further resolution was carried, congratulating Mr. Purnell, who has heen the borough's representative on the Wanganui-Vtangitikei Electricpower Board since 1921, being returned each time unopposed. He has been chairman of the hoard for t’he past 17 years. Mr A. J. B. Sieely moved the resolution, which was seconded In Mr. K. A. Williams.
