END OF YEAR MEETING More than 30 members attended the final meeting for the year of the Wanganui branch of the National 1 Council of Women, held on Thursdaynight in the Victoria League Rooms. .■ Mrs. Beaumont Bates presided. A new associate member, Mrs. J. McDougal, was nominated and welcomed to the council. Correspondence dealt with included a letter from the City Council granting the use of the Council Chambers for the N.C.W. conference, to be held in March of next year. A remit in regard to sex instruction to adolescent school pupils, which had been referred back to the affiliated societies for discussion, was carried. Because of the conference being held in March, it was decided to meet a month earlier than usual and to hold the first meeting of 1941 on the fourth Thursday in February. A letter embodying the following suggestion is to be sent to the Dominion secretary to be dealt with: "In view of the large i amount of drink among young sol- ■ diets, especially Territorials, the National Council of Women urges the l Minister of Defence to take steps to I enforce stricter enforcement of the > liquor laws." Wat Kin was the speaker for I the evening and his subject was "The New Order and Construction.' 1 He traced the evolution of the British Empire down through the ages and dealt with various periods in the history of Britain, of the social order of the Middle Ages, when the ideals of that time were a fair deal, a lair price and good craftsmanship. Mr. Watkin proceeded to analyse Hie I causes which had led up to the condi- : lions in the world to-day.
