Mi. W. A. Armour, principal of cllmglon College, who has been on sick leave during the past six weeks, returned to Wellington on Saturday to resume his duties.

Mr. H. I. Austad was elected president at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association in Wellington on Saturday. Mr. A. C. Kitto was elected chairman of the management committee.

Mr. D. G. O’Toole, president, of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, was congratulated at last night’s meeting on his re-election to lhe Executive of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce.

According to a Sydney cable, the New South Wales Attorney-General. Mr. Martin, will visit New Zealand next month to investigate the operations of the Matrimonial and Conciliation Act and the Law Reform Act.

Mrs. Howard, 35 Smithfield Road. Gonville, yesterday received a letter from her son, Private, C. J. Howard, Second N.Z.E.F., written from a prisoner-of-war transit camp in Crete on July 19. He stated that he was well, and no complaints.

Captain H. M. Keesing. M.C.. until recently company commander of A Company of the Wanganui Home Guard Battalion, has been appointed second-in-command of the Wanganui Battalion. Captain Keesing served in the Great War with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade.

Mr. H. T. Thomas and Mr. T. H. Macky, of Auckland, chairman ami deputy-chairman of Federal Union (N.Z.) have accepted the invitation extended to them to address a public meeting in Wanganui on the subject of Federal Union. Both visitors are members of the Auckland RotaryClub and are prominent speakers at that club and similar organisations in Auckland.

The death occurred on Sunday of Mr. John Burns, for many years a member ot the Wellington City Council. Mr. Burns was the United Party candidate for Wellington South at the 1928 general election, but was unsuccessful. Mrs. Burns, who was Miss Elizabeth Sylvia Richards, Wellington, survives her husband, and there are five daughters. Mrs. J. Caldwell. Wellington, Mrs. A. Sinclair. Wellington. Mrs. J. Evans. Mr. George Hill Gallaher, 70 Linton Street, Palmerston North, died in hospital on November 20 after a lengthy illness. He was formely in business as a baker and confectioner in New Plymouth for many years. The late Mr. Gallaher had advanced far in the Craft of Freemasonry, and in addition to being a Past Master of Mount Egmont Lodge No. 670 (E.C.), New Plymouth, he had held the highest ollices in Paritutu Royal Arch Chapter, Pukekura Rose Croix Chapter, and the Taranaki Preceptory of Knights Templar. District Grand Lodge honours were also bestowed on Mr. Gallaher, who was in turn Steward, Pursuivant and Standard Bearer in the Wellington District Grand Lodge (E.C. >. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Andrew. Te Kuiti, and Mrs. .P Humphrey. Palmerston North, and formerly of Murchison.
