RANGITIKEI LADIES’ HOCKEY ASSOCIATION DANCE AND PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES One of the principal attractions atthe Rangitikei Ladies’ Hockey Association’s annual dance on Friday even-1 ing in the Druids’ Hall will be the I presentation of trophies won during ■ the 1941 season. The winners were; Lingfield Rose; Bowl (7-a-side). Kia Ora; Athletic! Rose Bowl (11-a-side), United-Tutae-nui; Hinemoa Rose Bowl and seven silver buttons. Kia Ora; Southfield Cup (for main competition), Kia Ora; Winton Challenge Cup. retained by Kia Ora (this cup was at. stake for eight matches, which were all won by Kia Ora). The music for the dance will be supplied by Mr. Lawlor Barry’s Orchestra, and the ladies will have charge of the supper. CATHOLIC EUCHRE TOURNEY The final of a series of games at the St. Francis’ Church euchre tourney was held on Thursday last, when the aggregate prize was won by Mr. F. S. J. Amer. The evening's winners were Mr. H. Bosselmann anti Mrs. Worsop and the consolation awards went to Mrs. H. Lunn and Mr. Fyfe. Another series will commence on Thursday evening next. ST. .JOHN AMBULANCE DANCE In returning thanks on behalf of St. John Ambulance at the dance at “Runnymede” on Saturday Superintendent F. Lawson referred to the excellent financial result of the dance, of over £2O. and which was due to the members of the South MakirikiriRonnv Glen branch of the Women’s Division of N.Z.F.U., who were responsible for the organising and the supervising of the supper. They were also grateful to Mr. A. Stuart for his loyal assistance and free use of his woolshed and they were accorded hearty acclamation. POREWA CRICKET CLUB The annual meeting of the Porewa Cricket Club was held on Monday evening, Mr. D. A. Cameron presiding over a good attendance, considering the number of members who are on active service. The report stated that the cricket season had proved successful as far as the Porewa Club was concerned, their team winning the Rangitikei senior competition. More members had joined the military forces, including P. L. Marshall, V. Smith, and P. Rutherford. The report appealed to all retired former members of the club to return and help to keep the game alive. The balance-sheet showed a small loss on the year's operations.

auditor. SALE AT AUCTION MART The attention of carpet buyers is drawn to the outstanding carpets being offered at C. H. Lee's auction mart. Marton, to-day, at Dr. G. F. Finlay’s sale of household furniture and effects. FUNDS RAISED FOR NAVY LEAGUE A ready response was received from travellers by Marton girls on Saturday afternoon at the railway station, when fresh spring flowers were offered for sale in the form of decorative boxes, button-holes and in bunches. The money raised is to go to the “shop” day being run by the Rangitikei branch of the Navy League in October. The flowers were prepared by Mrs. H. J. Gould and Misses D. Awdry and D. Hammond, and the flower-sellers were Misses V. Rawson, G. Rickman, R. Gould. P. Gould, Molly Shannon and Mary Shannon. PARADE OF B COMPANY A full parade of B Company of the Marton Home Guard will be held in the old billiard room, Broadway, at 7.30 to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, to receive instructions in connection with the manoeuvres to be held on Sunday next. MARTON CRICKET CLUB At the annual meeting of the Marton Cricket Club the following new members were elected: Messrs. E. Henderson, C. Hobbs, E. Lewis, W. Sanders, J. Mallett, B. Harper, B. Smart, and J. Horgan. A bat, presented by Mr. P. Wootton, to be given to the player giving the most outstanding performance of the season, is to be open for competition this season. It was decided to write to the Wanganui Cricket Club offering to play a match in Marton and asking the club to select a date. An invitation is to be sent Hunterville cricketers to play for the club this season. Subscriptions were fixed at 25s for seniors and 7s 6d for juniors, the amounts to include ground fees. The secretary reported that letters of sympathy had been sent to Mr. G. L. Marshall on the deaths of his two sons on active service—Corporal H. Marshall and Flying-Officer G. Marshall, and to Mr. D. B. Sladden on the death of his mother. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr. D. B. Sladden for his work as auditor and Mr. R. Lewis as secretary. SUCCESSFUL BRIDGE EVENING. A successful bridge evening was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. ,1. A. Bush, Marton, on Saturday evening, 13 tables were occupied and the winners were Mrs. Callan and Mr. Harper, the consolation prizes being awarded to Miss Bush and Mr. Fuller. Competitions were won by Miss J. Sutcliffe (cigarettes) and Mrs. G. Morris (bag). Mrs. Kelsey won the hidden number prize. The proceeds are in aid of St. John Ambulance shop to be held in November for surgical dressings. HAVVKESTONE LADIES’ GOLF CLUB. DRAW FOR L.G.U. MEDAL.
