MAJESTIC THEATRE
“LITTLE NELLIE KELLY.” Though she livens the story up with her vivacious singing, Judy Garland is cast in a rather more sombre role . than that to which she is accustomeq in "Little Nellie Kelly,” which will continue to-day at the Majestic; Theatre. As the daughter of an Irish i father she plays her part well, and in ! the purely dramatic side of acting; gains new honours. Her father isl played by Charles Winninger, who is the outstanding figure. He plays the part of a stern old Irishman with a I chronic dislike for any sort of work, and who nurses a constant grudge ' against the man who married ins I daughter and took her to America I He vows never to speak to him, and i doesn’t, though this does not stop min 1 from living on him. On the death of i his daughter, he carries the grudge along with his granddaughter, and as! an unrelenting martinet with plenty I of blarney he makes himself very i unpopular. The play is shot with 1 plenty of humour and some old Irish songs nicely sung by Judy Garland.
