RANGITIKEI CRICKET
ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Rangitikei Cricket Association held last night. Mr. H. F. Arkwright presided. There were present Messrs. G. L. Marshall, J. D. Smith, P. Chapman, M. Marshall, D. A. Cameron, N. Rix-Trott, A. B. Marshall, C. A. Tidy, J. H. C. Broad, R. Baker. H. Towers, and C. S. Beechey, honorary secretary. The report and balance-sheet, already published, were adopted. Election of officers resulted:—President, Mr. H. F. Arkwright (reelected): vice-presidents, Messrs. J. H. C. Broad, C. G. Oliver, J. D. Smith, G. L. Marshall, N. V. Rix-Trott; honorary treasurer. Mr. C. A. Tidy; honorary auditor. Mr. D. G. Sladden; honorary secretary, Mr. G. S. Beechey; committee, Messrs. H. F. Arkwright (life member), D. A. Cameron (Porewa), D Hart (Old Boys), R.- Lewis (Marton), R. Baker (Hunterville), Ohakea member to be appointed. Mr. C. L. Harris, who had handed back his ground debenture, was elected a life member.
The following clubs have entered for the senior championship: Ohakea Air Force (two teams), Hunterville, Marton, Porwa, and Old Boys. A letter was received from the Wellington Cricket Association asking if the meeting favoured the annual Town and Country match, also the annual conference between Wellington Minor Associations and Wellington Cricket Association. It was decided to favour the conference and suggested Palmerston North as the venue. The playing of the Town and Country match was also favoured. During the meeting Mr. Arkwright presented the Manley Cup to Mr. M. H. Marshall, captain of the Porewa Cricket Club, which won the trophy last season. The question of arranging matches with the Wanganui Cricket Club on Saturday, October 11, was left to the secretary. The opening day of the season was fixed for Saturday, November 1. It was decided to place a board in the Marton pavilion and record the names of all players who were in the Armed Forces overseas. Old Boys, Porewa, and Marton have entered teams for the Arkwright Shield. Messrs. Rix-Trott, A. B. Marshall, R. Parkinson, and R. Baker were appointed a sub-committee to arrange the matches. Votes of thanks were given the groundsman for his good work, and the ladies for providing afternoon tea. Management Committee. Following the annual meeting, a meeting of the Management Committee was heid when the following appointments were made:—Grounds: Messrs. H. F. Arkwright, C. S. Beechey, D. B. Sladden, R. Rix-Trott, and F. Jones; selector, Mr. D. A. Cameron; timekeeper, Mr. F. Jones. Matches will start at 1.45 p.m. and play will cease at 6.30 p.m. with the right to close a match at 6 p.m. if a decision has been reached.
