SOLDIERS HONOURED. A farewell was tendered to LanceCorporal J. Wills and Private H. A. Lee in Rata Coronation Hall on Friday, August 22. There was a good attendance, and the music for the dances was supplied by Goile’s Orchestra. Mr. Chas McManaway, president, in an appropriate speech, made the usual presentations, and Mr. E. Picklord spoke on behalf of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Mr. Harry Downs, who is always popular, sang some of his old songs, which were well received. Extras were played by Mrs. Wereta, Mrs. L. Green, Miss Wereta and Miss E. Franke. A competition was won by Mr. A. Delhi. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very pleasant evening to a close. On Thursday evening next the Rata Patriotic Society will hold a social and dance in Rata Coronation Hall, at which Leading-Aircraltman F. D. Hammond, who is on special leave will be entertained. Goile's Orchestra will provide the music for the dance. WOMEN’S DIVISION FARMERS’ UNION. RATA-PUTORINO BRANCH. The Rata-Putorino branch of the Women's Division heid a very successful ping-pong and card eevning in Rata Coronation Hail on Thursday evening last in aid of Soldiers' Parcels Fund. The winner of the ping-pong were—A section, T. Green 1, Patsy Green and May Smith tied as runnersup. B section, Douglas Holmes (Wanganui) 1, Joan Signal 2. The winning table at cards were Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Pickford, Mrs. Delhi and Mr. S. Hart. A competition was won by Miss Z. Meads. The funds will benefit by f 4 17s 6d—a very good effort.
