FIXED PRICES FOR MEAT

CQ.MMENT BY TRIBUNAL. (Press Assn.) Wellington. Aug. 12. Commenting that it had noted fiom announcements in the Press of the Dominion that representatives of the Master Butchers’ Federation were conferring at Wellington with a view to submitting counter-proposals following the recent issue of a prime order by the Price Tribunal fixing the maximum prices at which meat may be sold by retailers, the Tribunal has stated that it accorded a hearing to a deputation from the Federation on Aimust 6. when comments and suggested amendments in the matter of meat prices were submitted. Responding to the deputation, the Tribunal expressed appreciation oi the restrained and exhaustive mannei in which the representations had been made. It had stated that it recognised that the matter was a very difficult and complicated one, and it pointed out that no pains had been spared to make the price offei as tan and reasonable as possible, while at the same time paying full regal o the importance of stabilising the price of meat. The representations would, the Tribunal added. be carefully studied, and a subsequent reply given to the federation. There was one thing, however, that the Tribunal desired to emphasise, namely that the nrice order was in existence and must be carefully adhered to by all butchers and it add’d that it hoped there would be no complaints that the price order had not be .1 obeyed.
