CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
SOLDIER FROM VVAIOURU FINED £3 Charged with assaulting Kenneth McDonald at Taihape last Saturday John Albert Dooley, Waiouru Military Camp, was convicted and lined £3 at the Taihape Court yesterday. Messrs. H. Johnston and E. Loader, J.P.'s, occupied the Bench. On a further charge of using obscene language, Dooley was convicted and discharged. The police gave evidence that defendant went to an upstairs room at the New Taihape Hotel and when told to leave he replied, “Who will put me out?” He was troublesome but came downstairs where another soldier. McDonald, attempted to remonstrate with him but Dooley kicked him and he had to receive medical attention. Dooley told the Court that he had been drinking and did not know wi.l he was doing. His superior officer spoke ver\ well of defendant, who was described as a hard and conscientious worker with a very good record. Defendant was allowed time to pay the fine of £3 and was also ordered Io pay medical expenses amounting to 10s 6d.
