R.A.F. IN MIDDLE EAST
MANY TARGETS BOMBED BENGHAZI, TRIPOLI, BARDIA. Rugby, Aug. 9. An R.A.F. Middle East communique says: In Libya heavy bombers of the R.A.F. delivered a number of attacks on enemy-occupied ports and positions during the night of Thursday-Friday. “Benghazi was again bombed. Hits were seen on the central and Cathedral moles. Tripoli was heavily attacked. All the bombs were seen to fall in the area ot the docks, where fires were started. “Other targets were attacked again yesterday at Capuzzo, Jambut and Bardia. At Bardin ti Maryland aircraft damaged a number of motor transport vehicles and killed and wounded, about 100 enemy personnel. It was, itself attacked by a Messerschmitt 110, but returned safety. “In Egypt our fighters intercepted a number of Messerschmitt 110's oft the Egyptian coast yesterday, and damaged several. Fighters which engaged enemy bombers over Alexandria on the night of Thursday-Friday destroyed a junkers 88. “In Abyssinia the remaining Italian forces, which are concentrated in the Gondar region, were bombed by the South African Air Force on Thursday and Friday. “All our aircraft returned safely.”— 8.0.W.
