CONSIGNMENT OF RADIUM FOR TARANAKI
REMAINDER OF £65(1 PURCHASE Early this year the Taranaki Centre of the British Empire CancelCampaign Society remitted to England the sum of £650 with which to purchase 60 milligrams of radium. A portion of this small but nevertheless precious consignment arrived in April and the centre has been waiting since then, not without considerable anxiety due to the shipping position, for the remainder to make its appearance. On Friday the order was completed when the further consignment arrived safely and was lodged at the New Plymouth Hospital, which is the radiology and clinical centre for the province. Fulfilment ot the purchase from England brings to fruition a long cherished aim. The £650 raised in Taranaki for the purpose was almost wholly derived from members’ subscriptions and no public appeal whatsoever was necessary. South Taranaki contributed largely when the move to raise the money was put under way.
