OPERATIONS IN CRETE LEADER A BRITISH OFFICER Cairo, Aug. 7. The "doomed battalion" in Crete is commanded by a British officer well known to the islanders. He moves freely, organising raid: against German posts, supply depots, and aerodromes, and spurring the islanders to continue resistance against the army of occupation. Many Cretans have joined the Imperia! troops. They are using any weapon on which they can lay hands, and arc also helping to obtain food and ammunition.— ij.P.A.
