FUNERAL OF MR. A. S. BURGESS
BUSINESS COMMUNITY REPRESENTED LENGTHY CORTEGE AND MANY WREATHS A cortege, numbering more than 100 cars, attended the funeral of the late Mr. A. S. Burgess, which took place at Aramoho on Saturday. All sections of the business community were represented. The service in the home and at the graveside was conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon J. R. Young. The pallbearers were Messrs. N. R. Bain, A. E. Rankin, A. Hatrick. R. Hatrick, W. J. Gilberd and Mr. W. R. Saunders (Wellington). Members of Tongariro Masonic Lodge and sister lodges attended the funeral. The Wanganui City Council was represented by the Mayor, Hon. W. .1. Rogers, M.L.C.. and the town clerk. Mr. C. R. White. Representatives of other local bodies wore: —Wanganui Harbour Board, Mr. W. J. Gardner (secretary); Automobile Association (Wanganui). Mr. P. D. England (president), Mr. F. J. Hill (secretary)' Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, Mr. D. O'Toole (president); Wanganui branch New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union. Mr. J. Robertson: Wanganui Aero Club, Mr. S. R. McCallum Mr. F. J. Hill; Wanganui City Patriotic Committee, Mr. H. M. Keesing (chairman), and Mr. J. P. Wells (secretary).
There were about 100 wreaths, including those from the New Zealand Motor Union Insurance, staff of Motor World (Wellington). Associated Chambers of Commerce. New Zealand Aero Club Wanganui City Council, North and South Island Motor Unions. South Taranaki Shipping Co., Automobile Association (Wellington). Wanganui Aero Club Federal Steam Navigation Co., Navy League, New Zealand Shipping Co., and the Automobile Associations of Wanganui. Manawatu. Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, and South Taranaki.
