CONTROL OF MEAT INDUSTRY
MINISTER’S REPLY TO RESOLUTIONS GOVERNMENT BEARING BURDEJ OF LOSSES Thanking the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association foi supporting a resolution of the Hawkes Bay A. and P. Association, to the effect that producers desired the Government to leave marketing in tlu hands of the Meat Board, the Ministet of Finance wrote as follows in a letter received at a meeting of the Wanganui Association yesterday: "I presume that the intention u that the Government purchase of the meat under the present arrangemeni should cease and that the industry should control the purchase and sale of meat itself on the pre-war basis This, of course, is ot serious importance to the industry, in view of the difficulties associated with the short-
age of shipping, provision of ojergency storage, holding of stock, and losses on meat not shipped. "The Government has endeavoured to protect the industry from the whole burden of these losses. I shall be glad, however, to see that your representations arc given careful consideration.”
