HIGH TRIBUTE PAID
PIPE BAND SECRETARY Eulogistic reference was made at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band last night to lhe high standard attained as a result ol the keen interest, and driving power of Mr. D. A. Almond in the dual capacity of drum-major and secretary. The discipline on parades was all that could be desired, due to his energy and ability, said the president, Mr. A. McSkimming. As secretary, Mr. Almond had proved himself most efficient, dealing with correspondence and general details in a most satisfactory manner. Further, it was mainly due to Mr. Almond's zeal that the finances of the band were in such a healthy condition, as disclosed by the balance-sheet. Messrs. James Patterson, 1,. McMilland, G. D. Duncan, S. R. McCallum and Pipe-Sergeant E. C. Morgan endorsed the president's remarks.
In thanking members for their reference to a work in which he took a keen interest, Mr. Almond appealed for continued support and co-opera-tion in the future, so that the band could maintain its present hohlthy condition, both as regards finances and membership. Ho said that the fact that, the band had a strength of fifteen pipers and seven drummers could be looked on with pride and satisfaction, as in addition there were four members on active service and about sixteen pupils, both piping and drumming making satisfactory progress. Mr. Almond concluded by saying that the band had the foundation which should enable it. to lake rank with the leading bands in the Dominion.
