WET CANTEENS

REQUEST THAT THEY BE ABOLISHED DEPUTATION TO METHODIST CONFERENCE ( r«r Preas Association. ) AUCKLAND, Feb. 24. A deputation from the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Alliance waited on the Methodist Conference asking support, for a request to the Government that wet canteens in military camps be abolished, and that no more liquor be sent overseas. The Rev. D. Hickson said he was sure every member of the conference was actively sympathetic and the matter would be discussed later in the session. The call to military service was having a serious effect upon the young men’s Bible classes, stated the annual report of the youth department. War had also depleted the ranks of leaders for Bible classes and Sunday schools. A number of resolutions were carried furthering the work of temperance education.
