BELGIAN GOLD HELD BY FRANCE
BEING HANDED TO GERMANY NEW YORK, Feb. 6. The exiled Belgian Government has obtained an attachment writ against £70,000,000 of Bank of France funds in the United States. The Belgians claim that the Nit’onal Bank of Belgium handed over to the Bank of France £70,000,000 worth of gold for safe keeping during the invasion of Belgium, but the Bank of Erance, despite Belgium opposition, sent the gold to Dakar, whence the French are taking it to Paris for delivery to the Germans. The Belgian Ambassador, M. Theunis, stated that France, if she persists, will be forced to replace every ounce of gold handed over to the Germans.
