RAIDERS HELPED
INFORMATION FROM RADIO STATIONS EVIDENCE IN AUSTRALIA [By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright! CANBERRA. Jan. 11. The Attorney-General (Mr. W. M. Hughes) has announced that the four commercial radio stations recently cut off the air had either been owned by or used by Jehovah's Witnesses. According to the naval authorities information was being supplied to the enemy. It was not suggested that this was done for the deliberate purpose of helping the enemy, but in effect it did so. "We have the most positive statement by one of the survivors of the raider victims that the captain of the raider knew a certain ship would be at a certain spot at a certain time. There must have been direct contact between the raider and some agent, or the information must have been wirelessed. "Therefore, we are in a position where we must take precautionary measures,” Mr. Hughes said. He hoped arrangements to permit the stations to be reopened would be made at an early date. In Sydney, the Premier (Mr. Mair) has announced that "for obvious reasons” his Government is preparing legislation to restrict the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses.
