WANGANUI EAST CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS. It was decided at the annual meeting of the Wanganui East Lawn Tennis Association to hold the opening day on Saturday next, October 19. Mr. E. Walpole presided. The annual report stated: “Teams were entered for inter-club events as usual—one A, one B, and three C teams—but all were quickly eliminated. Because of petrol restr’etions the usual friendly matches were considerably curtailed, although the club had a visit from a combined Rata-Hunterville team, and from St. Barnabas Club. This year about a dozen members entered for the Wanganui residential championships. “The club has been fated with an expenditure of £52 for overhaul of the motor mower, but this machine should now be in first-class order for some years to come. “Together with the Wanganui Rowing Association the club again ran a garden party this year, each club netting £9 12s Id. The competition run in conjunction with the garden party returned a net profit of £32 5s 3d each to the club and the association. “At a meeting held in June Mr. G P. Williamson moved that part ol the club’s land be offered to the Government Housing Department. This was approved, but although the offer was made immediately so far the club has had no word from the Government. “The club has lost a valuable member in Mr. Alec Christie, who is serving with the overseas forces.” The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. Russell Grace; president, Mr. E.
