Another sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Murch and Row, is to prepare a similar scheme for the collection of metals in the business area. To evolve a scheme to arrange for transport for the ellic'ent collection of scrap metal, a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. England and C. T. Young (co-opted member!, was appointed. It was stated that at least ten or a dozen light vehicles would be required, and the sub-committee is to enquire whether donations of petrol will be available to enable collection to he made without cost to the scheme. It was arranged that, the Mayor, on his return from Wellington, should interview the engineers of the Wanganui and Waitotara County Councils in order to arrange for co-operation in the collection of materials in the drive. The hope was expressed that, with the assistance of the head tea.ihers of the various schools, it would be . sible to organise the children of the'? upper standards In zones, assisted by I Boy Scouts, with an adult in charge of the organisation of each zone, to aelp in the collection. Time being the essence cf the scheme, the committee expressed the opinion that residents and business heads should make an inventory of all metals available at the earliest possible moment, so that reports in this direction would be available as soon as the National Council bulletins come ro hand. Thus it would be possible for the executive committee to ascertain at once what funds might be expected to assist the provincial patriotic fund as a result of the scrap-metal drive.
