GERMAN RECOGNITION OF BRITTANY
INTERNATIONAL STATUS BEING FIXED FURTHER SEPARATIST MOVES FROM FRANCE? GENEVA, July 30. An official German communique announces that Germany has expressly recognised the existence of Brittany, whose status internationally is being fixed by bilateral treaties. The Germans are representing France as a conglomerate of peoples, including Basques, Catalans, Flemings, and Walloons, possibly presaging further separatist moves. General Weygand, new Defence Minister, announced the demobilisation of the French armies in Syria and North Africa. Several ships were chartered to try to repatriate those in Syria.
The Germans are reported to have relaxed the suspension of communications between the occupied and unoccupied zones and to allow only one passenger train a day for services and Ministers going to Paris. Road movement is allowed to continue for refugees, providing the petrol tanks of cars are full when crossing the boundary.
