ALIENS TRIBUNAL

TO BEGIN SITTINGS NEXT WEEK [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, July 31. The newly-appointed aliens’ tribunal, of which Mr. Justice Callan is president, will begin its business in Wellington next week. The other two members are Colonel C. H. Weston, K.C., of Wellington, and Mr. J. H. Collins, of Wellington, and His Honour will leave Auckland on Sunday night to join them. The duty of the tribunal, which has been set up under the Aliens’ Control Emergency Regulations, is to inquire into the bona tides of all enemy aliens and to advise the Minister of Justice as to which of them should be interned and what conditions should be imposed. There are known to be upward of 1500 enemy aliens in the Dominion, and it is anticipated that the work of the tribunal, which will sit in the various centres, will occupy some months.
