PARADE TO THE MEMORIALS

THE LAYING OF WREATHS

Prior to marching to the Civic Service on Cook's Gardens yesterday, returned soldiers, South African veterans, First Battalion Wellington West Coast Regiment, units of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, 25th. British Corps of Frontiersmen, St. John Ambulance, and Red Cross Society marched from the Drill Hall to the Cenotaph tn Queen’s Park and then to the Maori Memorial in Moutoa Gardens. Wreaths from the citizens, R.S.A., Maori race, St. John Ambulance, P.ed Cross Society, and Mounted Rifles were laid on the Cenotaph. The Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, who accompanied Ihe parade, laid the citizens’ wreath. At Moutoa Gardens a wreath was placed on the memorial by the R.S.A.

The parade then marched to Cook’s Gardens, via Taupo Quay, Victoria Avenue, Guyton and Nelson Street. It was commanded by LieutenantColonel D. A. C. Lilburne, Officer Commanding the Ist. Battalion, Wellington West Coast Regiment, who had as his adjutant, Lieutenant L. Cross, N.Z.S.C. Three bands accompanied the parade—Queen Alexandra’s Own, Salvation Army, and the Band of the First Battalion Wellington West Coast Regiment. On arrival at Cook's Gardens the parade was played to positions by the Wanganui Garrison Band. Other bands which played units to the ground were the Highland Pipers (Technical College parade).
