INSPIRING PARADE OF’ RETURNED MEN f Ppp Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. From before dawn this, morning Christchurch fittingly observed Anzae Day. While Christchurch was still bathed in moonlight people began to congregate for the dawn service in Christchurch Cathedral grounds, and before daylight 500 returned soldiers and 1000 of the general public were assembled. Services were also held later at Christ’s College and Christchurch Boys’ High School and the Catholic Cathedral. The main event of the day was the parade in the afternoon of the returned soldiers and men of the Armed Forces before they attended a memorial service in King Edward Barracks. More than 2000 paradea, and the streets on the route were lined eight or nine deep. Behind veterans of the Boor War followed soldiers who had fought in the war of 1914-18, (visibly much older and showing effects of the years which have passed since I they gave service to t he country. These men were the most inspiring

feature of the parade, which was Ihe 1 best held for many years. It was a sunny autumn day and more than 8000 attended the memorial j service in King Edward Barracks, | from where every soldier from Can- | terbury now leaves when he goes to - camp. The principal address was given ’ by Mr. A. E. Haynes, president ot the R.S.A. After this service many wreaths ! were laid on the War Memorial in the • Cathedral grounds.
