WAVERLEY Mr. and Mrs. R. Prout have returned to Waverley from a week’s holiday in Wellington. Miss Mona Hyland, Kakaramea, was the guest of Mrs. J. H. Pepper fox the week-end. Mrs. Ogg, Morrinsville, is the guest of Mrs. Elmslie, sen., “Hillside.” Mrs. Price, Nelson, is visiting Waverley as the guest of Mrs. C. O'Reilly, Ngutuwera. Mr. Eames has returned to Waverley from a holiday in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Houston, Matainata, are spending a holiday in Waverley. Nurse Braine is the guest of Mrs. J. Morrison. Mr. W. Wybourne was the guest of his mother, Mrs. R. Wybourne for the week-end. Mrs. B. Lambie has returned to Waverley from a short holiday in Wellington. Mrs. Hyland and Miss Maigret Hyland, accompanied by Mrs. Greenhil'l (Opaki), are visitors to Wellington to attend the Exhibition. Mrs. W. Morrison, who has been spending a few days in Wellington, has returned to Kohi. Mr. L. F. Butcher is a Waverley visitor to Wellington. Misses M. G. and M. Aiken, Liverpool Street, Wanganui, were visitors to Waverley on Monday as the guests of Mrs. W. Aiken. Miss Joyce Sheppard is visiting Eltham. Mrs. G. Johnston has returned to Waverley. Mrs. R. S. How has left for a holiday at Timaru and Wellington. Mrs. Symes has returned from a holiday as the guest of Mrs. C. J. Hawken, Mokoia, and Mrs. Symes, Alton. Mrs. Sheppard was a visitor to New Plymouth during the wek-end. Miss R. Wybourne (Welington), is visiting her mother, Mrs. R. Wybourne. There was a poor attendance at Waverley. Mr. R. Boyne presided. Mrs. E. Brewer is visiting Wellington for the Centennial Exhibition. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Kitchingham, Nelson, were recently the guests of Mrs. J. Laird. Mrs. W. R. S. Brewer, “Waihau,” has her small grandaughter staying with her while her mother, Mrs. E. W. Sampson (Wanganui) is visiting Wellington. v

JMrs. Dobie has returned to her home from Otaki. Mr. and Mrs. Hyland and Miss Hyland, Mangawhio, are visitors to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes, Christchurch, are the guests of Mrs. W. Hurley. Mrs. Berry, Wellington, is Mrs. Penfold’s guest. Mrs. Death, who has lived in Waitotara for nearly 50 years, has sold her home and gone to live in Wanganui. Before leaving, some of her friends presented her with a fireside chair and rug and wished her happiness in her new home. MARTON Miss U. Williams is an inmate of St. Catherine’s Hospital, Marton, where she underwent an operation on Monday for appendicitis. Miss E. Labes, at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Marton Basketball Club, referred to Miss Williams’ indisposition, and a motion wishing her a speedy recovery to health was carried. Mr. Frank Barrington, who left Raetihi on Friday last to take a position as branch manager for Maypole Stores, Ltd., Hawera, is in the Hawera Public Hospital recovering from a minor but very painful operation. Miss Betty Lampp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lampp, Marton, arrived at Wellington by the Awatea after a twelve months’ tour of Great Britain, and was motored home by her parents. PATEA Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Dent, of Wellington, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. Austin. At the householders’ meeting at Whenuakura on Monday evening the following school committee was elected: Messrs. G. Hurley, J. Prout, H. Phillips, J. E. Wynne, and C. Broughton.

MATAROA Mrs. R. Marks has returned from Waverley. Mrs. S. J. Homer and small daughter Jeanette, are staying in the Capital City. Mr. and Mrs. C. McCarthy left today for Wellington, where they intend visiting the Exhibition. Messrs. Sol Steedman, D. Hunter, and C. McHardy have gone to Mangamahu, where they have several entries in the dog trials. At a meeting of householders held in the Mataroa School on Monday night, it was unanimously decided to place on record the splendid services of the ex-chairman, Mr. W. J. Williams, who has been on the Mataroa School Committee for a number of years and given his support wholeheartedly, it being felt by all that his social and financial help to the school had indeed been a great asset.
