NEWS FROM MARTON

MARTON BASKETBALL CLUB •ELECTION OF OFFICERS There was an attendance of 24 members at a meeting of the Marton Basketball Club on Tuesday evening, to discuss various -natters concerning the coming season’s programme. Air. E. Labes presided. The matter of affiliation was thoroughly discussed and from correspondence before the meeting, Marton could affiliate with either Te Kawau or Manawatu. It was felt that joining in with the associations would entail lengthy travelling and the advisability of forming an association in Marton was raised, inviting teams from nearby districts to link up. Miss Labes reported that the Marton Club could provide two teams and the Marton District High School two teams. There was a possibility that Bulls would affiliate with Marton and if oneother team could be found, the forming of an association would be assured. —It was decided to await a reply from headquarters, Wellington, as to the procedure of forming an association, and their opinion on the matter. It was decided to apply to Wie Borough Council and the Manage- • ment Committee of the St. Andrew’s Church for the use of the Marton Park and St. Andrew’s Hall respectively for practice purposes.
