An innings was the margin by which Wanganui Technical College beat Wellington Technical College in the annual cricket match which enaed on Cook’s Gardens yesterday. Wellington made 87 and 83, and Wanganui 182 and 116 for four wickets. A feature of Wanganui's second innings was a whirlwind 72 by Dovi, captain. Dovi, in half an hour, had scored 72, induing two sixes on top of the terraces and eight fours. D. McCarthy was the most successful Wanganui bowler i>i the visitors’ second inningo, taking three wickets and* nine runs. Golfers’ Appeal. Golfers will be provided with an opportunity to assist in (he Fighting Services Welfare Appeal by supporting the tournaments to be held at the Belmont links to-day and on Wednesday next. This afternoon the Wanganui Golf Club will hold a Stableford bogey match, and the gross entry fees will be forwarded, with other moneys collected, to the New Zealand Golf Council as a contribution to the fund. The Wanganui Ladies' Golf Club will hold an all-day tournament next Wednesday, and already generous support has been promised for this effort.

ThiMtre Managers Conifer. The first provincial conference of picture theatre managers of Theatre Management, Ltd., was held in Palmerston North this week. Those attending the conference comprised Mr. R. J. Kerridge (director) and Messrs. \V. M. Maxwell, T. L. Craigie, A. C. Davis, jun. (all of Palmerston North), C. Ashford (Wanganui), W. Tait (Wanganui), A. Tong (Hastings), N. Thacker (Hastings), W. Reid (Napier), P. Quinn (Napier), A. Grant (Masterton), H. Fry (Dannevirke), S. Cottier (Pahiatua), C. Smith (Dannevirke), C. Brittenden (Stratford), and J. Horton (Hawera). Waterside Workers. Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Waterside Workers’ Union were: President, Mr. F. W. Gould; vice-president, Mr. H. Beynon; secretary, Mr. J. Robertson; executive, Messrs. J. McDonald, W. Limm, A. Graham, H Sexton; delegates to L.R.C., Messrs. D. Dwyer. L. McDonald, J. Robertson; delegates to Trades Union Council, Mr. F. W. Gould. Reference was made by the president to the death of the former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and a motion of sympathy with the Government was passed. It was also decided to forward congratulations to the Prime Minister, Hon. P. Fraser, on this appointment. Road Improvement. The construction of a new road for the purpose of deviating tne Ktawhaike Bluff is well under way anci will be finished this month, stated the report of Mr. R. R. Dawson, engineer, at the monthly meeting of the Wangainui County Council yesterday. Surface I repairs had been made oy grading me i Hooded portion of the road and surfacing with pumice. The Long Acre Road had been re-snaped by tne jgrader and was in fair condition. On !the No. 3 Line Extension, fight metal repairs had been made, and lurlner metalling would be continued. Metai repairs would be made on the Concord and Warrengate Roads as as possible. A Soldier’s Garden.

The men asked if there was any work beyond her capabilities that needed attention on the section or about the house.
