WANGANUI v. WELLINGTON TECHNICAL HOME TEAM IN THE LEAD Wanganui Technical College were well ahead of Wellington Technical College at the end of the first day’s play in the annual match which was begun on Cook’s Gardens yesterday. Batting first, Wellington were dismissed for 87. Nine Wellington Technical College players failed to reach double figures, the top scorers being H. Gobbin (21) and W. Sergeant (17). The most successful Wanganui bowler was W. Kilroy, with five wickets for 23 runs. D. McCarthy took three wickets for 26 runs and R. Brown and M. Nagel one wicket each. In reply, Wanganui Technical made 182, J. Southcombe being top scorer with 30. He was well supported by D. Blick (27). M. Nagel (27), and D. McCarthy (26). M. Reeves took three wickets for 26, H. Lobbin two for 27, and W. Sergeant one for 35. At stumps, Wellington, in the second innings, had lost three wickets for 35. The match will be continued today.
