■ TEACHERS IN OTAGO = CONTRADICTION BY BOARD [ Per Frees Association.] DUNEDIN, March 20. Despite reports and rumours to the contrary, firm belief in the loyalty of teachers in its district was expressed by the Otago Education , Board. L The subject came up for discussion , when the chairman, Mr. James Wal- ■ lace, said in view of statements which j had appeared in the press he had , framed the following resolution: "As I some apprehension has been caused [ by recent statements which appeared , to reflect on the loyalty of teachers [ the board desires to state that it has i no doubt whatever about the loyalty of its teachers.” I Mr. C. E. Richards said there were . some teachers who had been disloyal. : He admitted he did not know of any . specific cases himself, but represen- ■ tations had been made to him to that • effect. Other members declared that no • such cases had been brought to their : notice, several stating that the fact - that some teachers did not conform i to general ideas did not necessarily mean they were disloyal. The senior inspector, Mr. T. A. Morland, said in course of visiting schools ’ over 15 years he had not come across i any instances of disloyalty among ; teachers. The motion was carried, the chairi man saying that loose statements had • caused all this discussion.
