GOLF TOURNAMENT (Own Correspondent) PATEA, Dec. 8. The Patea Golf Club is holding an all-day tournament on Sunday as the popularity of summer golf is increasing. AMATEUR ATHLETICS Wednesday's runs resulted: — Girls’ 50 Yards. —M. Goodwin 1, B. Mills 2, J. Hill 3. Boys’ 75 Yards.—S. Barkley 1, D. Glcnny 2, P. Quickenden 3. Men’s 100 Yards.—D. Mays 1, T. Partridge 2, C. McKenna 3. Girls’ 75 Yards.—Rae Clark 1, J. Hill 2, T. Gardiner 3. Boys’ 100 Yards.—H. Beauchamp 1, D. Glennv 2, L. Fitzsimons 3. Men’s 300 Yards.- R. Hill 1, R. Fitzwater 2, D. Mays 3. GIRL GLIDES Mrs. T. Ramsbottom presided at the Girl Guides’ committee meeting this week, when It was decided that committee members attend the Scouts’ and Guides’ breaking-up party on Monday and that parents of Guides and Scouts be asked to attend. The manager of the Te Rama Magazine advised that the annual subscription had been increased by Is. It was decided to pay the extra Is. The next church parade will be on Sunday at the Methodist Church. Seasonal greetings were exchanged. BOY SCOUTS Scoutmaster Ramsbottom reported to the Scout Committee this week that the local troop won the Moss Cup and the Ollerenshaw Cup and the Cubs the Totem Pole at the recent competitions at Stratford. Seventeen Scouts and fourteen Cubs attended the last church parade. A successful shop day had been held, over £lO being netted. Parades had been well attended and the breaking-up ceremony would be held in the Druids’ Hall on Monday. Five Foxton Sea Scouts would visit Patea on January 16, about 3.30 p.m., and he had decided to meet the boys and entertain them to afternoon tea and afterwards assist them in pitching camp and then take them to the beach. The committee were cordially invited to meet the boys. Cubmistress Kelly reported that Cubs had been attending parades well, three boys were going up the Scouts, four new boys had joined, and one left. The roll numbered 26. A break-ing-up camp fire would be held at the beach on Friday evening. Thanks were tendered all who had lid ped to make the shop day a sucMr. T Nelson’s resignation was received with regret. The committee recorded its appreciation of Mr. Nelson's work in thr past and wished him every success in the future. The chairman expressed the hope that Mr. Nelson would carry on hi< efforts on behalf of the Scouts in the South Island. Mr. Nelson thanked the committee ar.d expressed appreciation of the efforts of the Scoutmaster and exScoutmaster, on behalf of his son whilst a member ol the troop. It was decided that the funds collected for the Centennial Jgiboree be held in trust for a future jamboree. The next meeting will be held on |the first Tuesday in February. Mr. F. Pvamsbottom. who presided, wished members the compliments of the season.
