PATEA PLUNKET SOCIETY

REPORT BY THE NURSE LAST TUESDAY’S MEETING There were 63 Patea babies and 80 pre-school children under supervision, reported Miss N. G. Strachan, Plunket nurse, to the Patea Plunket Society on Tuesday. At outstations there were 76 babies and 128 pre-school children. New cases at Patea were five babies and five at outstations. Visits to Patea homes 69, and outstations 13. Visits to Patea office 128 adults, 114 babies, 34 pre-school children. At outstation offices 137 adults, 103 babies and 60 pre-school children. Sales totalled £4 10s 6d. There had been three cases of digestive upset and there had been one unsatisfactory case, referred to the doctor, and eventually sent to Karitane Hospital. The secretary reported having sent letters of condolence to Mrs. Bates (Patea) and Miss Edwards (Waverley). The Wanganui House Committee forwarded the four monthly reports referring to the Karitane Hospital. It was decided to send the annual donation of £5 to the Karitane Hospital. Mrs. H. Peacocke was elected a member of the committee. It was decided to obtain 50 copies of the booklet on the origin, etc., of the society. It was decided to convey the society’s grateful thanks to the Patea County Council for their promised donation of £5 ss. The president referred to the de* corated lorry entered in the recent Centennial celebrations and thanked Mrs. T. E. Roberts, the Plunket nurse and Mr. J. N. Anderson. It was resolved to send a letter of thanks to Mr. Hurley (Waitotara) and the driver of the lorry. Final arrangements were made for the shop day on Friday, December 8, the president referring to the splendid work of the men’s committee and their idea for procuring new members, and especially congratulating Mr. Austin on his efforts in gaining the largest number. Members were notified that there would be no meeting in January. After the meeting closed, the committee entertained Mrs. T. Nelson, who is leaving Patea to reside in Invercargll, at supper. When presenting Mrs. Nelson with a crystal candle stick on behalf of the committee, the president expressed regret at losing such a valuable member, who had given 11 years’ service. Mrs. Nelson, suitably replied. Those present were Mesdames R. W. Haddon (presiding), L. Austin, L. Adams, R. Allen, T. Anderson, J. N. Anderson, 1. Bostock, G. Francis, B. Hazeltine, R. Hunger, C. S. Petersen, R. Mays, G. Broker, C. Bates.
