ADVERSE EFFECT OF N.Z. IMPORT RESTRICTIONS REPORT OF COMMISSIONER CANBERRA, Dec. 6. The Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. C. E. Critchley, states in his annual report that the development of manufacturing industries in New Zealand will undoubtedly affect the trade in finished goods from Australia. He points out that the import restrictions interfered considerably with the establishment of new connections from Australia. Moreover, it had caused an increase in the value 'and output of articles manufactured in New Zealand, with the result that some Australian firms were taking steps to begin manufacturing in the Dominion to ensure continuity of supplies of their particular products and also to retain the business formerly held. In the prevailing circumstances, Australian exporters would find it difficult to extend their operations in New Zealand.
