SECRETARY RESIGNS
FARMERS’ UNION TRIBUTES TO MR. KENNETH ARMSTRONG ELECTED A LIFE MEMBER The resignation of Mr. K. Armstrong as provincial secretary was received with regret at a special meeting of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. The executive expressed its appreciation of Mr. Armstrong’s services and elected him a life member of the executive. Mr. R. O. Montgomerie, who was president for part of the year, paid tribute to Mr. Armstrong’s qualifications and expressed appreciation of his work. When Mr. Armstrong took over the secretaryship, the funds of the executive were at a very low ebb. He had saved the farmers of the district many pounds through his activities in regard to the question of transport and other districts had asked for his services. "The executive would have been much poorer during the year had it not been for Mr. Armstrong, who has given much of his private time to the affairs of the union,” said Mr. Montgomerie. "We all agree that this executive will suffer a big loss when Mr. Armstrong leaves," said Mr. W. Morrison. "I think the executive will have a difficult task in finding a secretary who will devote as much time to thcunion as Mr. Armstrong did. He has looked after the job very well.” Tributes to Mr. Armstrong’s service were paid by Messrs. R. Campion (Fordell branch), J. J. Lissette (Makirikiri), T. J. Davis (Waverley), W. Peat (Wanganui), J. Brandon (Okoia), G. Palmer (Brunswick) and C. S. Smith (treasurer). Mr. Armstrong intends to take up farming in the near future. The Finance Committee was instructed to make the appointment of a successor to Mr. Armstrong.
