RAETIHI NEWS
SCOUT CONCERT (Own Correspondent.) RAETIHI, Dec. 6. The first concert ever to be staged ay the Raetihi Boy Scouts took place at the Driuds’ Hail on Monday evening before an excellent attendance. Fhe Scouts themselves were responsible for a number of items in the nature of songs, sketches and camp [ire scenes. These were rendered very successfully. Valuable and much appreciated assistance was rendered by the Raetihi Harmonica Band. This was the band’s first public appearance and the standard achieved reflected great credit upon the leader, Mr. E. B. Hay. An interesting interlude was the presentation with commentary of two reels of film by Mr. R. Ciochetto, jun. They depicted the revent Sydney Jamboree. Certain sections in colour were very effective. The concert was a well worthwhile effort and the Scouts’ funds were considerably augmented thereby. Towards the close of the programme Rev. M. Underhill (chairman of the Scout Committee) made a presentation to the departing Scoutmaster, Mr. D. C. Chalmers. Mr. Underhill voiced the general regret at Mr. Chalmers’ approaching departure and thanked him for his devotion to a cause which meant so much for the boys of the district. In response Mr. Chalmers expressed his regret that his departure had to take place so soon. He hoped that there would be someone to follow him and continue in giving to the Raetihi boys all those things for which the Scouting movement stood. Mr. Chalmers was accorded hearty cheers by the boys. RAETIHI PATRIOTIC SOCIETY The executive of the Raetihi Patriotic Society, at its meeting last week, decided to hold a flag day at Raetihi on Saturday next, December 9. On this day collectors are to approach the residents and there will be given a flag to those who make a donation. The funds so collected will be used for the purpoqp of providing comforts for troops in camp at Waiouru.
