“OPPY S” NEW RECORD
AUSTRALIAN CYCLING . CHAMPION CAPTURE OU “BLUE RIBBON” MELBOURNE, Dec. 5. Hubert Opperman to-day set a new record for a 24 hours unpaced ride of 505 S miles, breaking the previous record of Cyril Heppleston. England, bv 374 miles. A feature of the ride was that he did pot! dismount once on the journey, which began at the South Australian border and ended at Bairnsdale. During the ride he also broke the Victorian and Australian 12-hours record of 264 miles. On the completion of his ride Opperman said he regarded it as his greatest triumph, as the 24-hour record was the cycling "blue ribbon.”
