HOSTAGES COMPELLED TO DIG OWN GRAVES
POLES SHOT IN BATCHES BY GESTAPO TONGUE Or VICTIM REPORTED TORN OUT LONDON, Dec. 4. The Times Paris correspondent states that, the Polish Information Bureau says that 300 of 350 hostages in Gdynia were shot in batches after digging their own graves, the Gestapo (Nazi secret police) killing them with revolvers, while those not yet mur- ■ dered were compelled to look on. The victims included the port director, judges, clergymen, a bank director, and a professor. Mass executions are reported from Posnania and Pomerania. The Gestapo arrested students because a window was broken in Oburzo and ordered their parents to whip them before the church. The parents refused and were clubbed. The statement alleges that the tongue of a Polish Member of Parliament was torn out. Three Czechs working in Baden escaped by swimming the Rhine to Switzerland, states a Berne message. They were detained by police. The fourth was drowned.
