DEPUTY-MAYOR’S SUGGESTION TOO MANY PEOPLE DECRYING THEIR OWN, HE SAYS. “I would like to see a club started, or a society, to boost Wanganui as is done in America.” said Cr. J. J. Scolt. Deputy Mayor, at a meeting of the City Council last night. "I do not know whether there is an organisation to decry Wanganui,” he added, “hut it seems that there are organised attempts, at home and outside, by some people to decry their own city. In the last days of his service as a councillor, Cr. Siddells might well use his organising ability to form a club to boost Wanganui, in the : Press, privately, at home. and , abroad, to remind ourselves of the | good that is in Wanganui and not ihe 1 bad. “We could start support loi that] club or society right here at this j council table," Cr. Scott added. “We should speak well of our city. I know that there is a certain class of people j who sighed with relief when this j loan proposal of £20,000 was passed ; over, but I hope that, the effort of Ihe | council to make provision for the [ staff, that the staff is entitled to, is | not going to be decried." .
