NEW YEAR TOURNEY The Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association’s annual New Year tourney will be held on the Wanganui Club’s courts in Nelson Street, starting on New Year’s Day. The tournament will extend over four days and will be managed by Mr. K. McFarlane. The championship titles, which are contested on the best of three advantage sets, are held by the following players:— Men’s Singles.—W. T. Pountney (Wellington). Ladies’ Singles.—Miss J. Ramsay (Auckland). Men’s Doubles.—A. and E. Dickie (Waverley). Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses J. Ramsay and J. Hansen (Auckland). Combined Doubles. —Miss B. Griffiths (Auckland) and J. J. McCarthy (Taranaki). The winners of the men’s and ladies’ singles will receive cups donated by Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Barkman. Mr. J. Harold’s challenge cups will go to the winners of the men’s doubles and the combined championship doubles winners will receive cups presented by Mr. J. Parsons, of Barcelona, Spain. In addition, men’s and ladies’ B grade championship events will be played. The handicap events will comprise men’s and ladies’ singles, men’s and ladies’ doubles and combined doubles. Entries for the tournament close with the secretary, Mr. A. W. J. Peacock, on December 27.
