Afternoon Party. i Very jolly wa sthe afternoon party] given by Mrs. Hylton Strauchon, at her home in Cambridge Street, on I Saturday for Nurse Sherwin, of I Christchurch, and formerly of Wanga- ■ nui, who has been re-visiting the city.' Bowls of double stocks were arranged i in the drawing room, and at afternoon; tea the hostess served some delicious ' savouries and cakes. Two amusing' competitions caused much laughter.; Others present included Mesdames : A. B. Collins, E. Kirk, S. Brooking, i A. Pritchard, D. Abernethy, C. Graham, C. Bartrum, J. Broad, C. Ryan, L. W. Chisholm, G. E. Iron- | side and H. D. James. Combined Celebrations. Mr. and Mrs. T. Dix entertained! about 80 young people on Saturday atj their home in Smithfield Road in hon- ' our of their sons, Messrs. Ross and! Eron Dix. The former goes into i camp at Trentham next week and the j latter was celebrating his twenty-first: birthday. Mrs. Dix received the; guests, many of whom had travelled ; long distances to be present, and a gay ! scene of revelry was the order of the ; night. A bountiful buffet supper was! served, and dancing continued until I the early hours.
